Alot of times, we need to face many challenges and make certain decisions in our life that might change our destiny forever. In whatever decisions or path that we might choose....never "fear". As "fear" is the greatest factor that's preventing us to move on with our lives. We have to challenge this "fear" that comes. That is one phrase in the Buddha's teaching..in a war..an elephant..calm with courage..even wounded by arrows...his mind is unmoved..still calm with courage...and died with courage. This might not be the exact phrase, but the meaning is to show us...don't give up easily when we encounter difficulties. We should be calm...mind unmoved...moving forward in meeting our goal...not till we have tried and fail...we should never give up easily. Succeed will come one day...if do not give up.
Recalled, once....I walk with my very good friend in a long journey to a temple...in the upstreams of Niagara falls. Is a long way. I was wondering when we will arrive at the temple (I'm getting very uncertain and impatient ) and thinking about the possibility of missing our bus back to Toronto. My friend had asked me a question: "Will you at this moment walk back where we came from or will you continue till our final destination?...My friend says..I will definitely continue!!!"...her voice with determination.
Lukly we did continue our journey. We found the temple and also very lucky to catch the bus back to Toronto. I thought to myself...if we have chosen to walk back from where we came...will never discover the temple...and will never find what's there....if we are too afraid ..."fear" will really tied us down...not allowing us to do anything at all....
May all of us have courage and determination in challenging whatever comes in our way...and be not afraid....and not give up easily. Just like cultivation, is difficult to swim upstream against the normal flow. To learn and do evil is easy...but to change our bad habits takes times and patience. Good things are hard to come by...and it takes twice the effort to do good.
Wishing all of you good health and happiness always and with great determinations to challenge all difficulties that comes your way.
